Kaiser Permanente San Rafael Medical Center
The San Rafael Medical Center opened in 1976 is a 120-licensed bed facility and is a part of the Golden Gate Service Area that includes medical centers in San Francisco and South San Francisco and Santa Rosa, and also medical offices located in Novato and Petaluma. The San Rafael Medical Center has about 150 physicians and over 1,300 support staff that serve the 103,000-member population throughout Marin County and a small part of Sonoma County.
The San Rafael Medical Center has 120 beds, including a 12-bed ICU/CCU and offers a full array of inpatient and outpatient services which include Emergency Services, Allergy, Audiology, Chemical Dependency, Dermatology, ENT, Eye Care Services, Head & Neck, Health Education, Mohs Surgery, Neurology, Nutrition, Obstetrics/Gynecology, Occupational Health, Orthopedics, Pediatrics, Pharmacy Physical Therapy, Plastic Surgery, Psychiatry, Radiology, Surgery, and Urology.
In addition to providing high quality medical care, our physicians enjoy a practice that is conveniently located to schools, affordable housing, diverse communities and an abundance of recreational activities. The majority of our physicians are board certified in their medical specialty and many hold academic appointments at surrounding universities including the University of California San Francisco and California State University-Sonoma.

Kaiser Permanente awards community service grants, donates surplus equipment, provides volunteer services and medical expertise and collaborates with numerous community organizations. The San Rafael Medical Center has partnerships with many non-profit organizations who share in their commitment to the well being of the diverse community population such as the Healthy Marin Partnership, San Geronimo Breast Health Center, Marin AIDS Project, and the Marin County School to Career Partnership. The award winning Educational Theatre Program sponsored by Kaiser Permanente offers free school performances to address the issues our youth face in today’s environment.
The city of San Rafael is considered Marin’s central city. It is located 17 miles north of San Francisco, on the northwest shore of San Francisco Bay. San Rafael is the county’s governmental, business and cultural center. It is the central base for taking day trips to scenic locations such as the Napa-Sonoma wine country, the Pt. Reyes National Seashore, Stinson Beach and the Muir Woods National Monument.
San Rafael also has many local attractions that include landmarks such as the Frank Lloyd Wright Civic Center, the Mission San Rafael Arcangel, and the Boyd House – home to the Marin Historical Society Museum. For the nature enthusiasts, San Rafael is home to the historic China Camp State Park. Visitors can hike, horseback ride, and bike the trails along the sweeping views of the San Pablo Bay to the east, and San Rafael and the San Francisco Bay to the west or for those who prefer water activities, there is boating, windsurfing and fishing on the pier.
